Abstract

This study examines the relationship between energy and environmental factors and sustainable urban development using the structural equation model (SEM) approach. As urbanization, population growth and economic activities increase, the pressure on natural resources grows, making it crucial for cities to adopt sustainability principles. The study evaluates both the direct and indirect effects of energy efficiency, renewable energy share, waste management, air quality and landuse on urban sustainability. Data were collected through a survey of 200 residents from urban areas, focusing on key variabes, such as landuse, accessibility, urban design and the energy environment. SEM was used for data analysis to explore the relationships among these variables. Results indicate that energy efficiency and environmental conservation significantly influence sustainable urban design. Eco-friendly building designs, energy-efficient technologies and public green spaces are vital for enhancing urban residents' quality of life. Additionally, the findings reveal that effective landuse and access to public facilities are shaped by robust environmental policies. The success of sustainable urban development relies heavily on integrating innovative environmental policies with urban planning, emphasizing resource efficiency and conservation. This research aims to offer practical insights for developing greener, more inclusive urban policies and serve as a guide for policymakers to design long-term strategies to address urbanization and climate challenges. © 2025 - Kalpana Corporation.
