This chapter explores the integration of language teaching, self- identity, and local history in developing global citizenship. It emphasizes that language is not just a means of communication but also a means of expressing one's culture and understanding of the history that has shaped oneself and the community. The chapter highlights the importance of local history in language instruction, as it helps learners relate to local realities and global concerns, fostering historical consciousness, ethical reflection, and civic participation. It also highlights the intersection of local history and global citizenship, highlighting the value of local contexts in language learning and raising the sense of global citizenship and interdependence. The chapter suggests approaches to incorporating local history into language teaching, such as project work, civic engagement, and digital storytelling, which promote active participation and deeper connections between language and history subjects. © 2026 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
