The aim of this paper is to reveal the existence of the designation of Patta and Opu in historical perspective in Selayar, position and role in the community of Patta and Opu in Selayar, and describe whether the economic, political, educational, and social are the root causes of social change in Selayar. The results showed that the existence of Patta and Opu in Selayar social transformation today, which is triggered by several situational factors. The end of the heyday of oil commodity in Selayar brought fundamental changes to the structure of economic actors and shifts the position of the nobility before becoming an actor. In addition, the appearance of the intelligentsia became a political leader in turn shifts the social roles primordial nobility. © Journal of Language and Literature.
