Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing English Language Teaching (ELT) by providing personalized and interactive learning. AI tools, such as virtual tutors, adaptive learning platforms, and automated grading applications, enhance productivity and allow teachers to focus on more interactive teaching elements. However, AI tools lack the subtle interactions and cultural context that teachers provide. Teachers are essential for emotional intelligence, cultural and pedagogical contextualization, and can provide more appropriate feedback than AI tools. AI-powered tools can enhance the learning experience by creating more interesting and motivating lessons, but teachers must adjust their traditional roles to incorporate modern technologies without losing the core aspect of human interaction. Teacher professional development is crucial for the responsible and effective use of AI technologies. Ethical concerns, such as data protection, algorithm bias, and access to AI systems, need to be handled ethically and inclusively. © 2026 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing. All rights reserved.
