The aim of this study was to determine the effect of environmental knowledge, conservation and motivation to maintain the environment, as well as to moderate the behaviour of the public in providing family latrines and drainage. Research areas were selected by purposive sampling: 150 respondents were selected by systematic random sampling. The data were analysed using multiple regression. The results showed that knowledge of the environment and conservation, and the motivation to preserve the environment provide a positive influence on the behaviour in the provision of toilet facilities and maintaining appropriate drainage around Lake Tempe in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. © 2015 WIETE.
