Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) combines real and virtual worlds, which benefit education, particularly in this era of advanced technology development. The benefits of AR in education support achieving Sustainable Development Goals, including quality education. This research is a systematic literature review that aims to analyze and formulate the use of AR in education in Indonesia. The review is based on the LearnTechLib (The Learning and Technology Library) database which contains various references related to the use of technology in education. There are 58 articles related to the research topic. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) is used as the guideline for selecting relevant articles, which results in 10 selected articles. The systematic literature review found that AR has been used in Indonesia in various research areas, including Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Science, Mathematics, and History. It involves universities, high schools, and elementary schools. The sample groups are still limited to students. All selected articles show the same research trend, which is using AR as the learning media. This review reveals that AR can reduce students' mathematical anxiety and improve students' understanding, abstract thinking skills, learning motivation, and attitudes. Although there is no specific best model for using AR to improve the quality of education in Indonesia, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of various studies related to the role of AR in various subjects and levels of education in efforts to improve the quality of education in Indonesia. This can strengthen understanding of the extent to which Indonesia has utilized technology, especially AR, and can be a consideration in conducting relevant field research. © 2025 Author(s).
