This research aims to explore the role of entrepreneurship in small business development based on information technology in Makassar City, with qualitative research and a descriptive qualitative approach. The focus of this research is on the role of entrepreneurship in the development of technology-based small businesses. with indicators including the ability to take risks, seek new market opportunities, and adapt to changes in the business environment. The key informants in this research are based on business actors' knowledge regarding the problem being studied. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews and documentation. This research collected data through observation, interviews and documentation with data analysis techniques carried out using interactive model analysis. The research results show that social and innovative entrepreneurship plays an important role in increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of MSMEs by utilizing information technology. Information technology allows MSMEs to improve operations, expand markets and innovate business models. However, there are various challenges such as limited access to finance and resistance to technological change that must be overcome, besides that the success of small businesses is greatly influenced by their ability to take and manage risks, as well as the ability to seek new market opportunities and adapt to changes in the business environment. The role of the Makassar City government in supporting the digitalization of small businesses through policies, training and infrastructure is also very significant, however, business actors in Makassar City find that deficiencies in digital marketing strategies, such as the lack of use of analytical tools and ineffective customer interaction management, are still the main obstacles. for small business actors in Makassar. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
