The study of the magnetic susceptibility of leachate in landfills as a proxy for heavy metal pollution has not been widely discussed. We present several case studies using the magnetic susceptibility method. The magnetic minerals in leachate are ferri-magnetic. Also, magnetic grains are super-paramagnetic and multi-domain. This study is complemented by the results of X-Ray Diffraction testing showing that the minerals in the sample are anthropogenic. The results of the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) test showed that octahedral-shaped leachate grains were pedogenic, while if they were not perfectly shaped, they were anthropogenic. Leachate has the potential to pollute groundwater and surface soil if it seeps into the soil. Therefore, effective landfill management is needed so that the culture of sanitation will be sustainable. © 2024 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
