This chapter discusses how technology and regulatory changes have complicated research privacy and security. Researchers must balance ethics and law while safeguarding personal data. The book emphasizes risk assessment and management throughout the research process to protect participant privacy and comply with data security standards. Safe data collection, storage, and sharing and privacy-enhancing technologies like anonymization and pseudonymization are key subjects. In order to maintain ethical and legal compliance, researchers and oversight agencies like Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) must work together. It also shows how proactive methods and information environment knowledge may build trust among participants, sponsors, and the public.
