This study explores the reflective practices of Bugis secondary school teachers in South Sulawesi through the cultural lens of mapanrung-panrung, a communal dialogue and reflection practice. Using visual ethnography, the research examines how these practices, rooted in the rich and unique culture of the Bugis community, align with and diverge from Western concepts of reflective practice, particularly focusing on collective learning and dialogue. The findings reveal that mapanrung-panrung fosters a deep communal approach to reflection, reinforcing both professional identity and collective responsibility among educators. This study contributes to a broader understanding of how cultural practices shape reflective learning in educational contexts. © 2025 National Institute of Education, Singapore.
