Abstract

This research explores how organizational learning and innovation capability influence business resilience in the hospitality industry in Indonesia. Drawing from the Resource-Based View and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, this study explains how organizational learning and innovation capability can promote business resilience in three- and four-star hotels. This study used a quantitative approach, and data were gathered from 134 respondents in 67 hotels in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected from supervisors and staff, and the relationships hypothesized were examined Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the study finds that organizational learning positively influences both innovation capability and business resilience. Additionally, innovation capability not only strengthens business resilience but also acts as a mediator in the relationship between organizational learning and resilience. These findings emphasize the critical role of innovation capacity in transforming organizational learning into improved business resilience. Hotels must invest in obtaining learning and innovation capacities via formal training and knowledge-sharing practices. Management must establish mechanisms that interpret learning outcomes into innovative practices to improve business resilience. This research contributes to the hospitality sector worldwide by showing how enhanced resilience can support employment stability and economic growth, particularly in emerging economies facing environmental challenges, especially for ASEAN countries as the tourist heaven to adapt to business dynamics, and for the Westerners as the main tourism demander to shape the business by improving networking to shape the hospitality business collectively. The study uniquely integrates organizational learning and innovation capability in examining business resilience within Indonesia’s hospitality context. © 2025 The Author(s).
