Birth is one of the causes of population growth. An indicator of birth is the age at first marriage. The age at first marriage (AFM) is the age at which a woman first gets married. There are five factors suspected to influence AFM, namely the percentage of the population living in rural areas, the average years of schooling for women, the percentage of the population aged 15 and above who are employed, the percentage of the poor population, and the Gini ratio. Semiparametric Spline regression was chosen for modeling AFM because preliminary identification showed that the data patterns are highly inconsistent, with some following specific patterns while others are random. Based on the analysis results, four factors significantly affect AFM: the average years of schooling for women, the percentage of the population living in rural areas, the percentage of women aged 15 and above who are employed, and the Gini ratio. The semiparametric spline regression model yields a coefficient of determination of 89.83%. © 2025 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
