Abstract

Angklung music is one of the traditional arts typical of Kampung Naga in the city of Tasikmalaya, West Java, which is still preserved to this day. Performances of the traditional Angklung musical instrument are conducted by the people of Kampung Naga in various activities. The aim of the research is to unveil the activities of the Kampung Naga community, which are concrete actions to preserve the traditional Angklung musical instrument in the current era of globalization. The formulation of the research problem revolves around how the Angklung music conservation strategy implemented by the Kampung Naga community is executed. The theory used as a basis for answering research questions is the conservation theory by Theodore Roosevelt. This research employs qualitative methods with data collection techniques, including observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The results of the research reveal three strategies for the conservation of Angklung music implemented by the Kampung Naga community in Tasikmalaya, West Java. Firstly, protecting Angklung music through the development of performances by generations of Kampung Naga, passing it from one generation to another, as well as spreading Angklung music performances on cultural stages in various regions of Indonesia. Secondly, the negotiation efforts of the Kampung Naga community involve welcoming domestic and foreign visitors to Kampung Naga. Thirdly, increasing the response of the Kampung Naga community to the tourism situation involves providing typical Angklung music performance services for tourists. © 2023 The Author(s).
